Come late summer, peanuts are in full swing, and ample availability of the regional harvest gives Aaron Siegel, owner and pitmaster of Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ, the opportunity to move the goober beyond boiled in some of his favorite dishes. For this succotash, he pairs green peanuts with butterbeans, cooking them in a fortified smoky broth before combining them with “meaty, jelly-fat tomatoes and vibrant squash.”  The peanuts Siegel uses at Home Team come from Limehouse Produce or GrowFood Carolina, but they can also be found at area farmers markets. “My favorite is the Saturday Charleston Farmers Market,” he says. “If you get there early, you will have your pick of everything.”

The votes are in, and — according to readers of Eat Like a Man, at least — Home Team BBQ officially makes the most life-changing ribs in America. Since opening six years ago in Charleston, South Carolina, the joint has cleaned out awards for best barbecue, best bar staff, best ribs in Charleston, etc. Our own poll drew some relatively diverse reaction, with praise for Pappy’s Smokehouse in St. Louis coming closest to Home Team, which, all told, got 40 percent of the vote (see the full results below).
